We work with other attorneys every day. This runs the gamut from free advice to referral arrangements in which we take over a case, to joint ventures where we work together representing a shared client. Each of the lawyers who comes to us has different needs, as do their clients, and so what we do is tailored to their unique circumstances. But in every case, the goal is the same: To give the client the best possible advice and representation.
In this section of our website, we describe how we work with other attorneys. We also offer free resources to help attorneys with cases similar to ones we’ve successfully worked on.
Legal Resources for Attorneys with Injured Clients
We believe in sharing resources and expertise with fellow members of the plaintiffs’ bar. To borrow a line from Benjamin Franklin, attorneys who represent clients with serious injuries “must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.”
Referrals, Co-Counseling and Joint Ventures
Most of our work comes from attorney referrals and co-counseling or joint venture relationships with other attorneys. Many of these attorneys have worked with us before, and have been happy with the outcomes we were able to obtain for their clients. Some have been opposing counsel in previous cases who saw firsthand the effectiveness of our work product. In either event, we carefully examine every case that our colleagues recommend to us. When you trust us enough to refer a case, we work as hard as we can to maintain that trust.
One of the hardest parts of being an advocate for injury victims is figuring out which individuals to represent. If you have a potential client and would like a second set of eyes to review the case, we are happy to help you as a professional courtesy. When we feel we can be of further assistance, we will let you know. And when we feel another firm might be in a better position than us to work with you and your client, we will let you know that too. What we are looking to achieve is the best outcome for both you and your client. We’re not just altruists here. Keeping our referring counsel happy so that they call us again is our goal. A single fee on one case means a lot less to us than our professional reputation.
How much involvement does the attorney who calls us want to have as the case representation continues? Some want a lot, some very little. Some attorneys turn over the entire case to us and don’t expect to hear again from us until the case is resolved. Others ask to continue regular contact with the client and have input on major litigation decisions. We can work with whichever approach best suits our referring counsel and their clients.
Every case is different, and unique facts require unique experience. Patrick Malone and Associates has successfully pursued many types of injury and wrongful death claims. Our expertise ranges from traumatic injury to newborn babies to motor vehicle collisions to insurance “bad faith.” Should you find yourself dealing with a specialized case in our area of practice, we will be happy to lend you a hand. Over the years we have become familiar with the intricacies of the law, and have developed relationships with many types of expert witnesses. We are always willing to discuss your case or recommend an expert witness. If you need a little more than a name and a citation, we can also work with your firm under a more formal agreement.
Fee Sharing
We share fees with referring attorneys, co-counsel and joint venturers as allowed by the Rules of Professional Conduct. The formula varies from case to case depending on work assignments, specialized expertise and financing of case expenses.
