HOW WE DO IT: We calculate the safety level of a commute based on the density of crashes along
your
route over the past year. The map is divided into a grid. The number of accidents to occur
within a
grid square are totaled and compared against the grid square with the highest number of
accidents.
Each grid square then receives a score based on how it compares to other squares. All squares
along
a route are totaled and averaged to create an average risk score. The grading scale for risk
scores
is a letter grade score on the scale of A-E. A is the safest that a route can be while E is the
least safe a route can be.
