Requesting an Accident Report in Washington D.C.
When an officer arrives on the scene of an accident, they will write an accident report (PD-10) and give it a unique six-digit identifying number (CCN). Write this number down because it will be useful when requesting a copy of the accident report.
If you don’t have this number, you can call the station of the police district that responded to your incident to obtain the CCN. Copies of this accident report can be obtained for a $3 fee per PD-10 and you can request them either in-person, or via mail.
Requesting Accident Report in Person or by Mail
You may request an accident report in person or via mail at any Metropolitan Police Department or at the Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters located at:
Henry J. Daly Building
300 Indiana Avenue, NW
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
You must provide either:
- Name and date, location of the accident, time of accident OR
- Six-digit accident number or CCN
It is important to know that the MPD will only release copies of the accident report to people who were directly involved in the accident. If you are trying to obtain copies for a friend or family member, you will be unable to do so if they are not with you.
